Crowdfunding makes it happen

The University and Leeds University Union have launched a Crowdfunding platform. Alongside traditional networks of friends and family, Crowdfunding harnesses the power of social media to reach a large audience of potential supporters, whose small donations can bring major projects to reality.
Through the Crowdfunding platform, we’re empowering students to raise money for projects which help them make the most of their time at Leeds. Whether taking a show on tour, allowing members to take part in a competition, hiring a speaker for an event or a professional coach to train their team, buying equipment or upgrading the spaces that matter to them – we are telling students that money shouldn’t be a barrier to them doing it.
Alongside support and advice provided to them during the process, all student participants receive project management, marketing and fundraising training – giving them the tools, skills and confidence to turn their ideas into reality.
Among the first successful projects was the Union’s A Capella society The Songsmiths, pictured, who raised the money they needed to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2019.
Some projects have received a small amount of match funding from the Footsteps Fund meaning supporters like you are helping students to realise projects which matter to them, encouraging them to raise the money to do it themselves – giving them key employability skills for the future.
