University of Leeds Leeds, United Kingdom, LS2 9JT Tel 0113 343 1162 MAKING A GIFT We will be delighted to discuss how your gift can help to support our work in Engineering and the Physical Sciences. Donations at many different levels can make a real difference: • A gift of £3,000 would support travel bursaries to enable students to deepen their knowledge through field research; • £80,000 would enable an outstanding graduate to study for a PhD, while making a telling contribution to an established research project; • For donors wishing to establish a more substantial programme, we could work with you to develop a tailored proposal. Funding postdoctoral research fellowships in your area of interest would provide vital early-career support to the research leaders of tomorrow, while there is a range of opportunities to support capital spending on research space and equipment. And because the University is a charity, UK taxpayers can make their gifts go much further. Gift Aid enables the University to reclaim the basic rate of tax on the value of their donation; while higher rate (40%) and additional rate (45%) taxpayers can reclaim the difference between their rate of tax and the basic rate. Put together, these leverage more power from your support. As an illustration, with Gift Aid and tax relief, a gift worth £50,000 to the University would have a net cost of just £30,000 to a higher rate taxpayer and £27,500 to an additional rate taxpayer. Donors may also choose to make their gift in instalments over a number of years. Further information on tax-effective giving and eligibility is available at
