Dr Julia Cockle, Clinical Training Research Fellow in Paediatric Oncology, is at the frontline of our work in brain cancer. She was funded to study for a PhD, dividing her time between working with desperately ill patients in clinic and searching for answers in the lab.
This funding allows her to carry out both roles, delivering frontline care and research now, while developing as a clinician and researcher whose work is set to impact on this critical field of medicine for years to come.
“I run a brain tumour clinic for children each week and it can be really hard, having to give their parents the devastating news about their diagnosis,” says Julia. “What gets me out of bed in the morning is to get to the lab and try to identify new treatments – and ultimately take them back to the clinic to help these patients.
“With your help we can reach that point much more quickly and we will hopefully show that viruses can significantly improve outcomes for these patients.
“Your support will be an investment in work which holds out real hope for a cure.”
